Reporting to the Ad-Hoc Mine Engineer, we are looking for a manager to oversee all engineering operations, inspecting and approving, mine operating licenses and the use off all mechanical and electrical equipment in accordance with the approved Codes of Practice (“COP’s”) and Standard Operating Procedures (“SOP’s”) of the Kleinzee mine.
The primary role of the General Engineering Supervisor is to manage the daily, weekly, and monthly physical monitoring interfaces of the mechanical and electrical processes. Also detect vulnerabilities, possible indicators of sub-standard equipment and any inefficiencies in the operational and maintenance processes. Performing a variety of routine and complex administrative, technical, and professional work in analysing and administering various components of the engineering procedural compliance including the Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) monitoring and reporting to the Mine Engineer and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains the engineering policies, COP’s, SOP’s, and program in conjunction with the Mine Engineer and Mine Manager.
- Implementing the mine engineering process flow in accordance with the Mine Engineer and Mine Manager approvals.
- Monitor compliance to engineering COP’s and SOP’s by contract miners.
- Conducts frequent inspections at the site to assist Managers and Supervisors in engineering, health, safety, and quality compliance.
- Assists with accidents or incidents investigations and take necessary corrective action to prevent future incidents. Communicate recommendations of findings to all concerned parties promptly.
- Manage engineering budgets and optimise expenses.
- Provide necessary instructions and guidance to the HOD’s.
- Identify potential risks and ensure processes are established to manage appropriately.
- Prepare regular reports for the Mine Manager and DMRE where applicable.
- Report non‐conformities and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and skill):
- B Degree or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a General Engineering Supervisor or similar role in an alluvial diamond mining operation.
- Significant experience in the financial aspects of mining such as cost control and budgeting.
- Knowledge of business process and functions (finance, HR, procurement, operations, SHEQ etc.)
- Strong analytical ability.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Outstanding organisational and leadership skills.
- Problem-solving aptitude.
- Valid drivers’ license (EB/08).
